Dental Perspective of Bulimia Nervosa Patient: A Case Report

The incidence and prevalence rates of eating disorder especially bulimia nervosa appear to be increasing overtime. Eating disorders are seen mainly in adolescents or young patients. The etiology of the eating disorders is unknown, but genetic, cultural and psychiatric factors appear to play a role. The dental practitioner is potentially the first healthcare worker to meet the patient and should recognize early signs of tooth substance loss and alert the patient to confront the problem. Early diagnosis, referral and intervention significantly decrease the risk of developing these associated medical complications. This report revealed the typical signs of orodental findings in a patient with bulimia nervosa. The dentist can assist in making the initial diagnosis and provide supportive dental care.
