Oral Benign Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid: A Case Report

Benign mucous membrane pemphigoid (BMMP) is a chronic subepithelial vesiculobullous disease of the mucous membranes and, occasionally, the skin. BMMP is a disease mainly of late middle age with a slight predi- lection for women. Oral cavity is the most common site. Most patients with oral BMMP manifest desquama- tive gingivitis. The present report was aimed to describe a case of oral BMMP in 56-year-old male. The patient presented with clinical features of desquamative gingi- vitis and painful ulcers on the buccal vestibule. The diagnosis of BMMP was established on the basis of clinical, histopathologic, and immunofluorescent findings. The patient was successfully treated with systemic and topical steroids.
