Modified Walking and Inside/Outside Bleaching Techniques Used in Non-Vital Teeth: A Case Report
A 16 years old Thai man was treated by tooth bleaching because four upper anterior teeth were avulsed from tooth sockets by an accident and their color were darken. The teeth were fixed and then treated by root canal treatment. This patient is healthy. The other teeth are normal in color and his oral hygiene is good. The four upper anterior teeth were endodontically retreated because there were external root resorption at the root-apexes. Then the right upper incisor bleached by using the Modified Walking bleaching technique with carbamide peroxide 35%, on tooth number 11 had treated whereas the left upper central incisor was treated by Inside/Outside bleaching with carbamide peroxide 10%. Four weeks later after the root canals of the upper lateral incisors were retreated completely, both of them were bleached by using Inside/Outside bleaching technique with carba-mide peroxide 10%. The upper central incisors were bleached before the upper lateral incisors because their root canal treatment has been finished first and their color was darker. The total treatment time was 6 weeks. The tooth color of all teeth become whitening but all the cervical part of them are still darker than the cervical part of the other teeth. The patient is satisfied with his bleaching teeth color. In this case, The treatment is not the optimized treatment because all four teeth have poor prognosis after accident. However it is a conservative treatment which is better than the invasive treatment which sound tooth structure will e lost more such as porcelain veneer or crown construction.
