Radiographic and Surgical Template for Dental Implant
Advances in implant dentistry have allowed for the predictable replacement of missing teeth. It is now common place to treatment plan partially and fully edentulous area in the mouth with implant-supported restoration. Therefore, comprehensive oral examination, radiographic examination, and multidisciplinary treatment plan are the keys of successful treatment, and these limit errors in implant placement procedure. Using a radiographic template with radiopaque maker is a popular method because the fabricating procedure is not complicated. Moreover, this technique makes an accurate data on radiographic film. In general, there are various types of radiographic template used in implant dentistry. For example, radiographic template with lead foil, radiographic template with gutta-percha resin, and radiographic template with metal sleeve guide are the most popular radiographic templates. This article aims to describe types of radiographic and surgical templates of dental implant, advantages and disadvantages of templates, including the procedures in template fabrication are also review and discussed.
