Erythema Multiforme: A Case Report

Inthajark Kansuda

Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute inflammatory disease as a result of the allergic immune response mechanism when the patient exposes the stimulating factor, as the infection, the medication and the chemical uses. The lesions can occur in the skin and or the mucous membrane. The diversity of the clinical features depend on the organ involvement, to be the mucous membrane and the skin. In the oral cavity, EM commonly demonstrates as the bilaterally symmetry of the desquamated lesions. The present report was described a case of EM in 55-year-old female, with the oral mucous membrane desquamation, the painful sensation, and the subjective complaint was difficult to eat. The diagnosis of EM was established by the basis of the patient history and the clinical features. The histopathologic finding and the immunofluorescence finding were considered for the diagnostic confirmation. The patient was successfully treated by the systemic and the topical steroids. There were not found the any lesions when the patient avoided the stimulating factor, as the consumption of the pesticides contaminated in fried insects.
