Bleeding Disorder in Oral Surgery

Knowledge of human coagulation processes as well as various etiologies of bleeding disorders, including abnormalities of blood vessels, platelets, clotting factors, and administration of thrombolytic drugs, were thoroughly reviewed in this article. It is required for practitioners in any medical disciplines to apply this knowledge for the management of bleeding disorders that are commonly found in the Oral Surgery clinic. In particular, it is imperative for oral surgeons to accurately diagnose the patients’ bleeding disorder from a thorough medical history and the laboratory tests, and to appropriately design a treatment plan for these patients. Furthermore, various hemostatic means and agents in oral surgery were emphasized, so the dental practitioners could apply this knowledge whenever needed.
